Isis
Isis was the mother Goddess of the Egyptian pantheon. She was very popular and worshipped widely, even beyond Egypt into Rome and Greece. Knowledge of grinding corn, weaving and magick are attributed to Isis having given these skills to Her people.
Astarte
Astarte was a couragous warrior Goddess who also embodied motherhood, as well as strength on the battlefield. She was worshipped in the Canaanite regions and is closely linked to the Mesopotamian Goddess Ishtar. As a fertility Goddess, She was depicted with cow’s horns (much like the Egyptian Goddess, Hathor).
Diana
Diana is the Roman name for the more-familiar Greek Goddess, Artemis. She was a huntress of the forest, usually depicted with bow and arrow. Twin sister to Apollo, Diana was a virgin and was called up by women who needed independence or protection from men.
Hecate
Goddess of dark change and the choices of the crossroads. Hecate is a very old Greek Goddess who is sometimes considered a Titan and sometimes one of the Olympian Gods. Originally, Hecate was a Goddess in Her maiden aspect, but has taken on the feature of a crone through history.
Demeter
Another Greek Goddess, Demeter was the Goddess of the autumn harvest and she ruled over all forms of agriculture. She was particularly well known in the myth of her daughter Persephone, who has kidnapped by Hades. Every year, Demeter mourns for her missing daughter and the seasons change to winter. Demeter is a strong and loving mother figure, as are most of the Goddesses here.
Kali
Kali is a Hindu Goddess, and is another mother figure, despite Her fearsome appearance. Depicted with tongue hanging out, a necklace of skulls and often covered in blood, it’s difficult for people to see Kali as a loving mother image. But the destruction associated with Kali is really just part of the cycle of creation and rebirth.
Inanna
Inanna has similar qualities as Astarte, mentioned above. She is a Goddess from the Sumerian region, and is also called the Queen of Heaven and later her name became Ishtar. Inanna was both a mother Goddess as well as a Goddess of war. She was a powerful figure, and like Demeter, braved a descent into the Underworld.
